The Present

RMK Management (Division of RMK Holdings Ltd., established 1999)

From February 2020 to November 2020 I have completed four projects as Owners Agent, my new company. These were my first projects after my first 40 years of building a business and my experience. I believe the theme behind each of these projects was specific to being of help and service to unique requirements where design, technical and construction knowledge was needed. This is not easily found in the construction world from a single source.

Project – Rescue | Work with Clients Builder

A residential project with building envelop issues on a five year old build by a residential contractor. Leaking caused by design failures were not being serviced by the home builder. I was hired by the client to resolve the issues. With a plan of what needed to be changed, we hired a building envelop consultant to validate our plans. We worked with some of the original build subcontractors and a couple new subcontractors that I had worked with over the years. The original home builder stayed involved and the project was successfully completed and the issues were resolved. The key outcome – a very negative situation was resolved through collaboration and identifying responsibilities and accountabilities.

Project – New Basement Design | Build

A new basement completion where the owner participated with some sweat equity, purchasing product, maintaining site cleanliness and painting. We hired the subtrades directly with the owner. This saved the owner any overhead and fee on top of costs and all contracts were sourced and initiated by RMK directly with the owner. All invoices and payments were managed and approved by RMK making it a simple step for the owner to make payment.

Project – Acreage Outdoor Living and Landscape Development

A wonderful acreage project where the landscape designer, client, and myself worked closely together to design a deck extension and new deck, pergola, parking pad, shrub beds, water harvesting, landscape lighting, Allan Block planters and paving stone sidewalks and raised patio. We brought Rhino Designs into the development of the design and it turned out fabulous. Subcontractors were hired by RMK Management and paid directly by the owner. The Project development, construction management, and the physical work for the Allan Block and paving stone was provided by RMK Management.

Project – Circa 1970 Residence Building Envelope Issues

Renovations to an existing bungalow’s building envelop issues. This included removing old 1970’s era skylights and resolving major issues in the washrooms which were causing damage to the structure. The renovations made a large difference in building performance and aesthetics.

VOLUNTEER EXPERIENCE

I started in early 2020 as a Ambassador Member with PACE Alberta. In November 2020 I was asked to be Executive Director. PACE (Property Assessed Clean Energy) Alberta is a non profit organization dedicated to a sustainable and renewable project financing tool for Residential and Commercial construction projects, while creating jobs for Albertan’s and specifically working towards helping our environment and our climate change emergency.

Imagine being able to provide clean energy buildings and lessoning your commercial or residential GHG emissions without the previous high cost impact of choosing sustainable and renewable project methods. Imagine ease of financing while building to sustain our planet. Ultimately PACE Alberta seeks appropriate amended legislation that removes the burden of funding green projects aspects from the government and allows private funding that encourages the needed movement for environmental stewardship while creating jobs.
